Inside Out Egg Roll Bowl Recipe

Inside Out Egg Roll Bowl Recipe
Rice bowls have been popular for the last few years, and lately, there have been myriad recipes for egg roll bowls. Since I love both, I decided to combine then into an easy weeknight dinner that my family loves. We love this Inside Out Egg Roll Bowl because it’s easy, healthy, and is a full meal in a bowl.
While I generally use ground pork in this recipe, you can use ground beef, ground turkey or chicken, pork chops, beef steak, or chicken cut into strips, or even leftovers. Sometimes I combine ground pork and thin strips of sliced chicken or pork loin which I marinate in the sauce for 15 minutes or so. You can use your imagination.

8 Servings

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground pork, or substitute ground turkey or beef or sliced chicken or pork
1 large onion, chopped

2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon Oriental sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, finely grated or minced
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 16 oz. package coleslaw mix, finely shredded
8 ounces bean sprouts, rinsed and drained

4 large green onions, sliced

4 cups hot cooked rice
3 1/2 ounces wonton strips

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet. Add the ground pork (or substitute) and chopped onions; stir over medium heat until the onions are soft and the meat is cooked through.
  2. Blend the sauce ingredients in a bullet blender or whisk until well mixed; pour over the meat mixture.
  3. Bring to a boil and add the coleslaw mix; stir-fry until the cabbage softens slightly.
  4. Stir in the bean sprouts and stir to heat through. Sprinkle with green onions, and serve over rice with a few wonton strips over the top.
